Flat and Grippy, Not Steep and Slippy 1
Unframed Drawing
Pencil and gouache on smooth cotton rag paper, 2020, 21 x 14.5cm
Drawn while sitting on top of Castle Rock at 1112m above sea level, at Girraween National Park, near Stanthorpe, Queensland.
Having discovered that I was unexpectedly afraid of heights, I worked on a series of drawings on thick cotton rag paper while trying to muster the courage to walk back down the mountain. Some pages were pre-painted back in my studio with bold gouache shapes.
"Flat and Grippy, Not Steep and Slippy" was a silly song which I repeated to help me get back down from the mountain. I was convinced I would slide right off the steep rock faces we had to walk along but in reality I had nothing to fear as they were "flat and grippy not steep and slippy”. Turns out it was all in my mind. Fear is funny like that.
This is a hand-drawn original artwork, not a print. Reproductions are not available for this artwork.
