Inspired by growing up watching the water rising on a tidal sandbank as a measurement of time, knowing when to return to camp before being stranded. My family would camp for weeks along the mouth of a salt water creek and the kids would spend our days walking through a lagoon to get to the ocean. The journey at low tide to the beach was the fun part. It would take an hour weaving around horizontal gum trees, fallen into the water a long time ago, and now with trunks the texture of driftwood. Seeing stingrays and fish below our dangling feet as we take a break on a low lying branch. Spending hours in the tree-less sand dunes with its alien vegetation and eventually trekking across to the beginning of the 9 kilometre beach full of fishing trawler debris and shells.

This is a hand-painted original artwork, not a print. Reproductions are not available for this artwork.
